REAL ESTATE LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

In order to obtain a real estate license in New York State, an individual must be at least 18 years of age, not be more than 4 months in arrears in child support, not have been convicted of a crime (felony) or license revocation and/or suspension, successfully complete a NYS approved Salesperson Qualifying Course, and be sponsored by a NYS Licensed Real Estate Broker (in good standing with the Department of State, Division of Licensing Services).

NYS Real Estate Salesperson examinations are walk-in and are offered nearly every week in most major cities throughout New York State. Once an applicant receives a "PASSED" slip (which is good for two years), he or she may apply for their license as a real estate salesperson.  The application requires an original School certificate, sponsoring broker signature, original "PASSED" slip and check made payable to the NYS Dept. of State for $50.

Once licensed, salespeople must complete 22.5 hours of approved education every two years.

For more information on license requirements for real estate BROKERS or APPRAISERS, call the School at (716) 639-7877 or (800) 735-5395.
